This year for my 34th birthday, I decided to take a solo trip.
I was supposed to be going to Seattle with my mom and brother, but sadly that trip fell through. I still had those PTO days approved, so I decided to still keep them and do a solo trip. I have been wanting to go to San Jose to see my friends and their baby, so I figured this would be the perfect time to do that trip.
I have also wanted to go to Lake Tahoe for the longest time. I love mountain towns, cozy cabins, and icy blue lakes. I have heard it's like the Switzerland of America and the pictures really make it seem like such a relaxing getaway. So it was a happy surprise to see that Lake Tahoe is only a 4 hour drive from San Fran! Hence, my plan for my solo birthday trip was born. San Fran --> San Jose --> Lake Tahoe. Plus, this drive is highlighted in my "Epic Drives of America" book which is even more exciting. I'm also hoping to hit up some gold rush towns on my way back, but that may be a little too ambitious, we shall see.

Another happy surprise...they opened up a Chase lounge at the JFK terminal that my flight was taking off from. It was a really clean, beautiful lounge and it had some decent food. Not the best food I must say, but it was good for being free. The drink that I had was delicious, and it left me a little buzzed. I also had a latte and a salted chocolate chip cookie that was really yummy. Pretty great way to start my trip and to celebrate my birthday :)
Beautiful views from the plane. Sadly, I didn't get to see the northern lights.
I decided to treat myself and booked a room at the Grand Hyatt at the SFO airport. My flight landed at midnight and I didn't want to risk taking a taxi or sketchy airport shuttle to some hotel in the city. Plus since it is my birthday, I decided to pamper myself and get a nice 5 star hotel room. More pictures in my post tomorrow!
I have never had room service in my life. This pizza hit the spot at midnight and it was my birthday dinner. Complete with an overpriced $5 can of coke! It was no NY style piz,a but it was pretty freshly made and it was a nice way to end the night.

Pampering myself at the Grand Hyatt with my bathrobe and slippers. Eating pizza while watching SVU at midnight....classy.
Overall, today was such a fun way to start my solo trip here in Northern California. I'm nervous but I'm excited at the same time. I can finally cross off so many things from my bucket list. I'm also so happy and grateful that I am able to travel and explore different parts of the world. I have not felt this happy in a long, long while.
