It's been a while since I last blogged but things have so far been going good...knock on wood times a million. I've been living with intention, focusing on taking care of my mental & physical health, not letting work get the best of me, and putting my life first before work.
This weekend, I decided to take a little trip to Morristown, New Jersey. It's been on my list of cities to visit as a potential place for me to move once I leave NYC. I don't think I'm ready to swap the city life for the suburban life quite yet, but it's nice to have options for when that time comes. While I love Long Island, it's mad expensive and so congested. New Jersey is a (slightly) cheaper alternative and it really reminds me a lot of Pennsylvania. And best of all, this town is only a 1-hour train ride into Manhattan although each round trip comes at a steep price of $28, and thanks to inflation I'm sure the price will keep jumping up every year.

My first stop was this cute little bakery/coffee shop called The Artist Baker. I had a blueberry scone and a coffee and oh my god ... this is probably THE best scone I have had in my life. So buttery and flaky. The coffee was delicious as well. I wish I had taken a picture of the pastry case because they had so many goodies. But the shop was a little tight and busy so I didn't get a chance to sit down or take many pictures. Will definitely be coming back early in the morning next time!
But this made for a nice breakfast to get going on this cold dreary day. After I warmed up with my coffee and scone, I decided to walk around Morristown to check out the town. It rained the ENTIRE time so most of the pictures look very dreary and empty, but I'm sure in the spring and summer, this town lights up with activity.
There were so many beautiful churches around town. I love the stone architecture.
Next, I stopped by The Lokl Cafe. This was a modern cafe with a ton of seating, and also great pastries and drinks. I got a plain croissant and a parmesan/leek croissant that was beyond delicious. I read a few chapters of my book here and escaped the rain a little bit before moving on.
Of course I had to check out the library! It was an older library that could do with some updates, but it had a lot of books, computers, and ample seating. Good place to get some work done.
Next I met up with my friend who lives around here to get some brunch (not pictured), and then we went to this cute shop to get some macaroons that we ate at her house.
I ended up staying the night at a local Hampton Inn because I forgot to cancel the reservation in time. I had booked the hotel a month ago when I first decided to go to Morristown but was planning on cancelling the reservation last week. However I waited too long and by the time I went to cancel the reservation, my 5-day grace period had passed. Oops! But I'm actually glad I ended up staying the night because it allowed me to explore Morristown and the neighboring town well. Not pictured but I also went to the major shopping areas to see how they were - Target, Whole Foods, Old Navy, HomeGoods, etc. I even did some shopping at Target and HomeGoods. It was such a nice shopping experience - no congestion, no long lines, easy parking, and all the shelves were nicely stocked.
Overall I'm really happy with my little weekend excursion to Morristown! I could definitely see myself moving here one day. I love that it is a very suburban town but it still retains that "Main Street" vibe that makes you feel like you're in a city. I also love that the Morristown train station (which apparently I didn't take a picture of...) is right in the center of the town and gets you into Manhattan within an hour. Again, I"m not sure if I'm ready to move to the suburbs quite yet, but I'm glad I added this place to my list of places to consider for the future.
